The occupation detains the bodies of the martyrs according to a judicial decision for the purpose of using them as bargaining chips (Al Jazeera)

A Palestinian human rights report said that the Israeli occupation authorities are holding in refrigerators the bodies of 23 martyrs from the occupied city of Jerusalem.

The report of the Wadi Hilweh Information Center in Jerusalem, which monitors the occupation’s violations during last February, stated that the oldest bodies held by the occupation belong to the martyr Misbah Abu Subeih, who was martyred in October 2016, and the most recent are the bodies of the two martyrs Wadih Alyan and Fadi Jamjoum, who were martyred during Last February.

In September 2019, the Israeli Supreme Court issued a decision allowing the Israeli military commander to temporarily detain the bodies of Palestinians killed by the army and bury them for the purposes of using them as “future negotiating papers.”

On the other hand, the report stated that 5 Palestinians were martyred from the city of Jerusalem, or on its lands, during the past month.

He pointed out that the occupation authorities continue to impose restrictions on the entry of Muslims into the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, placing iron barriers on all its doors, and arresting and searching arrivals and examining their identities and belongings, more severely on Fridays.

The same source also indicated that the occupation imposed restrictions on the number of participants allowed to participate in the funerals of the dead in the mosque, limiting it to 10 people.

In exchange for restricting the entry of Palestinians, the report stated that settlers’ raids on the mosque continued and more than 2,600 settlers participated during last February.

In terms of arrests, the center said that the occupation authorities continued their arrest campaigns in the city of Jerusalem, and the center monitored 251 arrests, “which included children, young people, women, and the elderly, in addition to the arrest of dozens of young men from the West Bank under the pretext of illegal residence in the city of Jerusalem.”

Regarding demolition operations, the Center documented 12 demolition operations in the city of Jerusalem, including a building under construction containing 8 floors, and two buildings each containing 5 residential apartments.
