Sudanese families displaced to Chad to escape the war (Al Jazeera)

The countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council stressed the urgent need to find a comprehensive solution to the Sudanese crisis, and urged the brothers in Sudan to maintain calm, give priority to the language of dialogue, unify ranks, preserve the cohesion of national state institutions and prevent their collapse, and prevent any external interference in Sudanese affairs that would fuel the conflict and threaten Regional peace and security.

This came in a statement delivered by Hind Abdel Rahman Al-Muftah, Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva, on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, in her capacity as Chairman of the Gulf Group, during the “Enhanced Interactive Dialogue on the Report of the High Commissioner on Sudan” held within the framework of the 55th session. Human Rights Council.

Al-Muftah reiterated the GCC countries’ commitment to standing by the Sudanese people, and continuing to provide humanitarian aid and support and contributing to alleviating their suffering, but expressed the GCC countries’ deep concern about the Sudanese people’s suffering from violence, displacement, and the collapse of basic human rights.

She indicated that the GCC countries encourage the talks facilitated by Saudi Arabia, the United States, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development and the African Union between representatives of the Sudanese Armed Forces and representatives of the Rapid Support Forces, which resumed in the Saudi city of Jeddah on October 29.

It also expressed the GCC countries' welcome of the announcement issued on November 7th regarding the Sudanese parties' commitment to facilitating the arrival of humanitarian aid "to reach an agreement that alleviates the suffering of the brotherly Sudanese people, meets their aspirations, and contributes to enhancing the country's security, stability and prosperity in all fields."

Meanwhile, the State of Qatar called on the warring Sudanese parties to exercise a voice of reason and resume negotiations with the aim of reaching an agreement that ends the fighting and spares civilians further suffering, stressing the need for cooperation to facilitate the access of humanitarian aid to those affected, and adherence to the principles and rules of international humanitarian law and international human rights law.

A statement delivered by Hind Al-Muftah affirmed the State of Qatar’s firm position towards the unity and territorial integrity of Sudan, rejecting any form of interference in its internal affairs, noting the need to promote and protect the human rights of the Sudanese people, and expressing regret at the human rights situation there as a result of the ongoing fighting since More than 10 months.
