Senegal is bleeding

”, “

freedom of expression stabbed but the press will remain standing

”.

These slogans were written on signs carried at arm's length by several of the dozens of journalists gathered in front of the 7TV premises to show their support for Maimouna Ndour Faye, stabbed near her home on February 29 at the end of the day.

Quickly hospitalized, her condition stabilized, but the motive for the attack is currently unknown, explains Papa Moctar Sélane, coordinator of a reporting and investigative magazine at 7TV: “

Given the way Maimouna was attacked, it seems that the individuals were not only there to scare or harm him but to make an attempt on his life.

The host who received political figures on set had already assured that she had received death threats.

His aggression is one attack too many, according to Migui Maram Ndiaye president of the Convention of Young Reporters of Senegal: “

For a very long time, we have received threats when we give information which is accurate but which is not favorable to a political party .

The activists, whether those of the opposition or those in power, attack us.

This case must serve as a trigger to stop these threats, to stop this violence against media professionals.

»

This act of violence was denounced by civil society as well as by the entire political class, whether from the majority or the opposition.

Prime Minister Amadou Ba assured that the State will take the necessary measures so that “

light is shed

” on this attack and that its “

perpetrators are brought to justice

”.
