A suspected drone attack has seriously damaged at least one residential building in St. Petersburg, Russia.

The state news agency RIA reports the impact of an unmanned aircraft, citing eyewitness reports.

The region's governor, Alexander Beglow, spoke only of an "incident" in which the glazing of the balconies of two houses was partially damaged.

The residents of the affected apartments were evacuated.

There were conflicting reports about possible injuries.

While Beglow announced that no people were injured, RIA, citing the city's health authorities, reports that six people received medical treatment following the incident.

There is no information about the background to the possible attack.

Ukraine has been defending itself against Russian attacks for two years.

There are also repeated reports of drone attacks on targets in Russia.

However, the damage and victims are disproportionate to the consequences of the war in Ukraine.

The government in Kiev usually does not confirm possible drone attacks.
