Agricultural Show: an environmentalist delegation particularly scrutinized

While the excess of environmental standards is often denounced by farmers who have made their anger heard in recent weeks, the visit, to the Salon de l'Agriculture, of an environmental delegation composed in particular of the number one Ecologist, Marine Tondelier , and the head of the European list, Marie Toussaint, was particularly scrutinized.

Marie Toussaint (our photo), head of the list of the Ecologists party, visited the Agricultural Show on Friday March 1, 2024. The Greens assured they received an “excellent welcome” from the farming world;

The tone is cordial between Arnaud Rousseau, the president of the National Federation of Farmers' Unions (FNSEA) and the Ecologists who are nevertheless in complete opposition.

The first defends productivism and the others degrowth.

But so many crises and elections oblige, it is better to be cordial, including with the Rural Coordination, a radical union which disrupted a trip by Marine Tondelier to Lot-et-Garonne in 2023.

Standards

The latter finds a common point between the two activisms: “

You are agriterrorists, like us we were ecoterrorists

 ”.

“

It’s perhaps a little fairer for you than for me

,” retorts Christian Convers, general secretary of the union.

However, the joking tone does not make it possible to overcome disagreements on pesticides or even standards.

Marie Toussaint, head of the list in the next European elections, will also defend the importance of standards during the campaign.

 No, but farmers, you know,”

she

says, “they say

“there are too many standards”

and they also say,

“there are standards that protect us”

and, in particular, the standards on appellations. products, it allows farmers to stand firm in the face of unfair competition, to be recognized.
