The Palestinian woman, Wafaa Al-Bilbisi, sits in a shelter center inside a school in the northern Gaza Strip, next to her son, who has special needs.

Al-Bilbisi finds herself trapped inside a burning room after being exposed to a previous Israeli bombing. She has no other alternative to which she can flee, as the devastating war on the Gaza Strip continues.

Al-Bilbisi’s three children suffer from a mental disability, while one of them suffers from an increase in electrical charges in the brain, and they are taking treatment specifically for their condition, according to Al-Bilbisi.

The mother says in a choking voice, "My children suffer from mental disabilities, and there is no safe place for us to go to. The shelter centers in schools can no longer accommodate us, and the high prices of food have made obtaining food difficult."

She adds that one of her sons suffers from an increase in electrical charges, his condition is difficult, and he needs medication that is not currently available.

Her son Islam suffers from a very strange allergy that causes blue spots to appear on the skin, and they do not disappear except by eating certain foods and special medications that are currently missing.

The mother points to the severe shortage of food and medicine, with the worsening economic and humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, stressing that she cannot obtain sufficient food supplies, due to exorbitant prices, and therefore she tries to feed her children with one meal a day.

Al-Bilbisi found that most of the food was lost from the markets, such as rice and flour, so we were forced to eat the fodder intended for the animals, in addition to cutting off the diapers needed for their children.

Thousands of Palestinians in northern Gaza face the danger of hunger and thirst, especially children, as Israel prevents aid from reaching this area as part of the war it has been waging against the Strip since last October 7.

Multiple displacement

The three children feel extremely frightened when they hear the sounds of explosions resulting from the continuous Israeli bombing.

Al-Bilbisi says with great sadness, "The most difficult thing I suffer with my children is the difficulty of dealing and communicating with people, because of the mental disability they suffer from. There is no place to go, and I moved between 3 schools."

She adds that one time they returned home and found it damaged by Israeli bombing, so they returned to the first school and found the classroom bombed as well.

She points out the tragic situation of the room in which they are with 10 other people, even though it cannot accommodate just her family alone, as pieces of cement are falling from the walls due to the bombing and fire.

Despite all these challenges, the mother clings to hope and faith, and appeals to humanitarian and international bodies to provide the necessary assistance to save the lives of their besieged families, stressing that her only hope is for her children to live in peace and dignity, for the war to end and for the unjust siege on the Gaza Strip to be lifted.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip that has left tens of thousands martyred and wounded, most of them children and women, according to Palestinian and UN data.
