Thousands of worshipers participated in the first Friday prayer at the Algiers Mosque (social networking sites)

The Algiers Mosque, which is the third largest mosque in the world, hosted its first Friday prayer today, after its inauguration by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, last Sunday.

According to the Anadolu News Agency correspondent, tens of thousands of citizens prayed behind the mosque’s preacher, Sheikh Muhammad Maamoun Al-Qasimi Al-Hassani, after listening to his sermon, during which he considered this architectural edifice an achievement recorded for the generation of independence, and evidence of Algeria’s adherence to its religion, despite the attempts of French colonialism (1830-1962). ) Obliterate it.

The Friday preacher pointed out that the Mohammedia area, on which the mosque was built, belongs to the Mohammedans, the loved ones of the Prophet of God, Muhammad, the Seal of the Messengers, after it bore the name of the pioneer of French Christianization, Cardinal Charles Marcial Lavigerie (1825-1892), during the colonial period.

Regarding the atmosphere of the first Friday prayer in the mosque, Anadolu’s correspondent reported that the prayer hall, which can accommodate 36,000 worshipers, was filled to capacity, and that the mosque administration provided buses to transport worshipers from different areas of the capital to the mosque.

Last Sunday, the Algerian President inaugurated the huge mosque, which can accommodate a total of more than 120,000 worshipers, according to Anadolu Agency, and is distinguished by its location on the capital’s bay overlooking the Mediterranean Sea in the north of the country.

With an area of ​​200,000 square meters, the Algiers Mosque, also known as the Great Mosque, is the third largest mosque in the world after the Two Holy Mosques, and its 265-meter-high minaret is considered the highest in the world, according to official sources.

In addition to the prayer hall, the mosque includes a Qur’an house, research centers, and a library containing one million books.
