The International Court of Justice said Friday that Nicaragua filed a lawsuit before the United Nations court against Germany for providing financial and military aid to Israel and for stopping funding the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

Nicaragua asked the court to issue emergency measures obligating Berlin to stop supporting Israel militarily and to cancel the decision to stop funding UNRWA.

According to Nicaragua's accusation, Germany is violating the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide signed in 1948 and the Geneva Convention signed in 1949 regarding the laws of war in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Nicaragua stated in the lawsuit that “by sending military equipment, and now by halting funding for UNRWA, which provides essential support to the civilian population, Germany is facilitating the commission of genocide.”

Some major donors to UNRWA, including the United States and Germany, suspended funding for the agency after allegations that about 12 of its tens of thousands of Palestinian employees participated in an attack by Palestinian resistance factions, led by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), on Israel, on October 7. the past.

The Nicaraguan document adds that emergency measures are necessary because of Berlin's "participation in the ongoing, credible genocide and serious violations of international humanitarian law" in the Gaza Strip.

The lawsuit derives its basis from South Africa's lawsuit against Israel, in which it accuses it of committing genocide against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

The International Court of Justice said last month that South Africa's accusations that Israel violated the Genocide Convention were credible, and ordered emergency measures to be implemented, including calling on Israel to stop any possible acts of genocide in Gaza.
