Hundreds of people approach around 30 trucks carrying aid supplies in the northern Gaza Strip, then the situation escalates.

The Israeli army published these images, and the Reuters news agency was able to confirm the location of the photos based on the location and shape of the buildings and streets.

It is not yet clear how the disaster occurred on Thursday in Gaza City.

According to the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health, at least 104 people were killed and 760 others were injured in the incident.

An eyewitness reports.

Injured man: »We went to get food and flour and they started shooting at us.

Then we threw ourselves onto the street and no one cared about us.

Finally, someone brought us here.

There are dead people lying around and no one cares about them.

Some need first aid, but there is none.

Al-Shifa Hospital is full of injured and dead people and there are no medics.

They took us to Kamal Adwan Hospital because no one could help us.”

The Israeli army, however, initially denied having attacked the convoy.

Rather, there was mass panic and people were overrun.

Avi Hyman, Israeli government spokesman: »At a certain moment the truck drivers, civilian drivers from the Gaza Strip, were overwhelmed.

They ran into the crowd and, as far as I know, killed dozens of people.”

However, the Israeli army has since admitted that in another incident involving the aid convoy, Israeli soldiers felt threatened and fired a limited number of shots, killing people.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for an independent investigation into the incidents.

Numerous international leaders once again spoke out in favor of a ceasefire and further food deliveries to the people of Gaza.

According to the UN, many of the refugees there are starving because aid has halved since January.

The people's need is great; the number of aid deliveries is not sufficient to provide for everyone in need.
