As Russia's invasion of Ukraine continues to prolong, the government has decided to impose additional sanctions on 12 Russian government officials and eight organizations, including freezing their assets.

At the G7 (G7) summit meeting held online last week to coincide with the two-year anniversary of the invasion, Prime Minister Kishida announced his intention to impose further sanctions on Russia. Additional sanctions were decided at a cabinet meeting on the 1st.



The plan includes adding 12 people and eight organizations, including Russian government officials, whose assets in Japan will be frozen.



It also

prohibits the export


of goods that contribute to strengthening the industrial base and the indirect import of diamonds used in jewelry etc. originating from Russia.


Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi: ``We have decided to introduce this additionally in cooperation with the G7.''

At a press conference after the Cabinet meeting, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi said, ``As the invasion continues to prolong, we decided to introduce additional measures in cooperation with the G7 in order to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.We will continue to support the international community in the future. We will work together with them.”
