China News Service, March 1 (Xinhua) The Ministry of Education held a press conference on March 1 to introduce the basic situation of the development of education nationwide in 2023.
According to the Development Planning Department of the Ministry of Education, in 2023, the nine-year compulsory education consolidation rate will be 95.7%, an increase of 0.2 percentage points from the previous year.
Primary school level
There are 143,500 ordinary primary schools in the country.
The national primary school enrollment was 18.7788 million, an increase of 1.765 million or 10.37% over the previous year; there were 108 million students in school, an increase of 1.0397 million or 0.97% over the previous year.
There are 6,656,300 full-time teachers in primary education across the country, an increase of 26,800 over the previous year; the academic qualification rate of full-time teachers is 99.99%; the proportion of full-time teachers with a bachelor's degree or above is 78.03%, an increase of 3.5 percentage points over the previous year.
There are 904 million square meters of general primary school buildings across the country, an increase of 14.8944 million square meters over the previous year.
The proportion of schools with standard primary school facilities and equipment across the country is as follows: 94.26% of sports venues (halls) area, 97.44% of sports equipment, 97.22% of music equipment, 97.2% of art equipment, and 96.93% of mathematical natural experiment equipment.
All proportions increased compared with the previous year.
Junior high school stage
There are 52,300 junior high schools in the country.
The national junior high school enrollment was 17.5463 million, an increase of 232,500 or 1.34% over the previous year; there were 52.4369 million students in school, an increase of 1.231 million or 2.4% over the previous year.
There are 4.0831 million full-time teachers in junior high school education nationwide, an increase of 57,900 over the previous year; the academic qualification rate of full-time teachers is 99.96%, an increase of 0.02 percentage points over the previous year; the proportion of full-time teachers with a bachelor's degree or above is 93.09%, an increase over the previous year 1.38 percentage points.
There are 815 million square meters of junior high school buildings across the country, an increase of 28.7749 million square meters over the previous year.
The proportion of schools nationwide with junior high school facilities and equipment that meet the standards is: 95.94% of sports venues (halls) area, 98.16% of sports equipment, 97.93% of music equipment, 97.95% of art equipment, and 97.68% of science experimental equipment.
Except for science experimental instruments, the proportions of other items have increased compared with the previous year.
