  According to the Development Planning Department of the Ministry of Education, in 2023, the gross enrollment rate of higher education will be 60.2%, an increase of 0.6 percentage points from the previous year, completing the "14th Five-Year Plan" goals ahead of schedule.

  There are 3,074 colleges and universities in the country, an increase of 61 from the previous year.

Among them, there are 1,242 general undergraduate schools (including 164 independent colleges); 33 undergraduate-level vocational schools; 1,547 higher vocational (junior college) schools; and 252 adult colleges and universities.

There are also 233 scientific research institutions that train graduate students.

  The total number of students studying in various forms of higher education was 47.6319 million, an increase of 1.0811 million or 2.32% over the previous year.

  A total of 10.4222 million students were enrolled in general and vocational undergraduate and junior college programs across the country, an increase of 2.73% over the previous year.

Among them, general undergraduate enrollment was 4.7816 million, an increase of 2.19% over the previous year.

The number of vocational undergraduate students enrolled was 89,900, an increase of 17.82% over the previous year.

The enrollment of higher vocational colleges (junior colleges) was 5.5507 million, an increase of 2.99% over the previous year.

A total of 4.4549 million people were enrolled in adult colleges and universities across the country, an increase of 1.24% over the previous year; 10.0823 million students were enrolled, an increase of 7.99% over the previous year.

There are 1,634,200 online undergraduate and junior college students enrolled; 7,399,700 students are currently enrolled.

  A total of 1,301,700 graduate students were enrolled nationwide, an increase of 4.76% over the previous year.

Among them, 153,300 doctoral students were enrolled, an increase of 10.29% over the previous year; 1,148,400 master's students were enrolled, an increase of 4.07% over the previous year.

There were 3.8829 million postgraduate students studying, an increase of 6.28% over the previous year.

Among them, there are 612,500 doctoral students, an increase of 10.14% over the previous year; 3,270,500 master's students, an increase of 5.59% over the previous year.

  There are 2,074,900 full-time teachers in higher education across the country, an increase of 97,100 or 4.91% over the previous year.

Among them, there are 1,345,500 in general undergraduate schools; 30,800 in undergraduate-level vocational schools; 684,600 in higher vocational (junior college) schools; and 14,100 in adult colleges and universities.

  The proportion of teachers with graduate degrees or above in general and vocational colleges and universities was 79.14%, an increase of 0.6 percentage points from the previous year.

The student-teacher ratio in general and vocational colleges is 17.98:1, which is further improved; among them, the ratio of general undergraduates is 17.51:1, undergraduate-level vocational schools are 17.57:1, and higher vocational (junior college) schools are 18.92:1.

  The construction area of ​​general and vocational colleges and universities is 1.189 billion square meters, an increase of 58.1464 million square meters over the previous year.

The average area per student of general and vocational colleges and universities is 56.82 square meters; the average building area per student is 28.26 square meters; the average value of teaching and scientific research instruments and equipment per student is 18,600 yuan.
