A demonstration against the Syrian regime began in the Syrian city of Suwayda on Friday morning, a day after the funeral of the demonstrator Jawad Al-Barouki, who was killed by regime forces during a peaceful demonstration, according to witnesses.

The demonstrators flocked from several villages to Al-Karama Square in central Suwayda, chanting for freedom, dignity, and the overthrow of the regime.

The demonstrators carried banners describing Syrian President Bashar al-Assad as a murderer and a criminal and demanding his departure from power.

Suwayda is witnessing widespread anger in response to the killing of Jawad Al-Barouki during a peaceful demonstration - Wednesday - against rising prices, electricity and water outages, and the regime’s security practices.
