The German-Iranian Nahid Taghavi had to go back to prison from prison leave.

On the platform X, formerly Twitter, her daughter Mariam Claren wrote on Thursday that her mother was "arbitrarily and without reason" ordered back to the notorious Evin detention center in the capital Tehran.

Taghavi was unexpectedly granted prison leave in January due to health problems.

During this time, however, she had to wear an electronic ankle bracelet and was not allowed to move more than one kilometer from her apartment in Tehran, as her daughter explained at the time.

Imprisoned since October 2020

The Foreign Office wrote on X that Taghavi should receive medical treatment, not prison.

»The abrupt end to prison leave makes this impossible.

We condemn the disregard for their health and continue to advocate for them without ceasing," the post said.

The architect Taghavi has been imprisoned since October 2020.

According to her lawyer, Iran's judiciary sentenced her to ten years in prison for, among other things, "leading an illegal group."

Taghavi is one of several Germans imprisoned in Iran.

The German-Iranian Jamshid Sharmahd is threatened with execution.

According to his family, the opposition activist, who had recently lived in the USA for years, was arrested and kidnapped by the Iranian secret service in Dubai in the summer of 2020.

The 68-year-old has been in prison in Iran ever since.

In February 2023 he was sentenced to death on terror charges, and at the end of April the Supreme Court confirmed the verdict.

There are also numerous other foreigners in prison in the Islamic Republic, including many dual nationals.

Iranian citizenship cannot be renounced.

Human rights activists accuse the Islamic Republic of holding foreigners hostage in order to free Iranian officials convicted abroad.

Tehran denies this.
