  • Politics The PP corners Marlaska for dismantling the elite group against drug traffickers and disapproves of him in the Senate

A wear that does not stop.

The Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, has been disapproved by Congress with a

PP

motion that blames him for the "shortage of means" to confront drug trafficking in the province of Cádiz and the "responsibility" in the murder of two civil guards in Barbate (Cádiz) with a

drug boat

.

A week ago he was also politically censured by the Senate for this same matter.

The key to the disapproval in Congress has been in the position of some parliamentary partners of the Government, who have let Marlaska fall.

Specifically, the deputies of

Junts

and

Podemos

have abstained and have allowed the motion as a result of interpellation by the PP to prosper successfully.

Thus, the result of the vote was 171

yes

, 165

no

and 11 abstentions.

It is the third time that Grande-Marlaska has been failed by Parliament.

To the two occasions already mentioned, we must add the one that occurred in February 2023 when groups related to the Executive also politically censured the management that the Minister of the Interior had had in the Melilla tragedy of June 24, 2022, when 23 died. migrants.

The disapproval of a minister has no practical effects on his continuity in office, but it does have a relevant symbolic character, since it confirms that he has lost the confidence of the Chamber.

However, the dismissal of a minister is an exclusive prerogative of the President of the Government.

Therefore, Pedro Sánchez is the only one who can relieve him of his portfolio and not Congress.
