At the headquarters of the Socialist Party Without Borders (PSF), behind the soldiers who still prevent access, we can see the building, riddled with bullets.

The number of impacts and the gaping holes in the walls testify to the violence of the assault which led to the death of opponent Yaya Dillo, in

Chad

In a press conference on February 29, 2024 in Ndjamena, prosecutor Oumar Kebellaye retraced the course of events, without however giving a precise assessment but adding that the PSF finance officer whose arrest triggered this cycle of violence on Tuesday February 27 in the evening would be alive and well, contrary to what his party had announced.

“

A very bad signal for the upcoming elections

 ”

Yaya Dillo, cousin of the late Chadian President Idriss Deby Itno, died on February 28, three years to the day after a first arrest attempt at his home during which his mother and one of his sons were killed.

He himself narrowly escaped before heading into exile for several months.

“

The Chadian people should not be concerned by these family rivalries within the clan which has managed power for more than 30

years,” protests opponent Brice Mbäimon who sits on the National Transitional Council (CNT).

This is not normal in a Republic and it is a very bad signal for the upcoming elections

 .”

During another press conference this Thursday, the Secretary General of the MPS, the party founded by former President Idriss Deby, Mahamat Zen Bada, had very harsh words against the late opponent: “So-called

political actors attempted to undermine the transition process as it comes to an end,

” he declared before reaffirming his support for the president of the transition, Mahamat Idriss Déby, candidate chosen by the party for the presidential election, the first round of which is planned next May 6.
