The main opponent of General Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno's junta in Chad, his cousin Yaya Dillo Djerou, was killed on Wednesday February 28 in the army's assault on the headquarters of the Socialist Party Without Borders (PSF), announced Thursday in AFP the government spokesperson.

Yaya Dillo, president of the PSF, died "where he had taken refuge, at the headquarters of his party. He did not want to surrender and shot at the police," said Abderaman Koulamallah, door -government spokesperson and Minister of Communication.

The opponent was accused of having carried out, on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, an attack against the premises of the intelligence services following the arrest of one of his activists for "attempted assassination against the president of the Supreme Court".

Questioned by AFP, a few hours before his death, Yaya Dillo had fiercely denied and denounced "a lie" and a "staged" intended to rule out his candidacy against General Déby in the presidential election scheduled for May 6.
