The authorities of the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldavian Republic turned to Russia with a request to provide assistance in the conditions of the economic blockade by Moldova.

The corresponding resolution was adopted by the participants of the congress of deputies of all levels, which took place on the initiative of the President of the PMR Vadim Krasnoselsky.

“Accept an appeal to the Federation Council and the State Duma of the Russian Federation with a request to implement measures to protect Pridnestrovie in the context of increasing pressure from Moldova, taking into account the fact of permanent residence on the territory of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic of more than 220 thousand Russian citizens and the unique positive experience of Russian peacekeeping on the Dniester, and also the status of a guarantor and mediator in the negotiation process,” the document says.

The Transnistrian authorities announced unprecedented challenges and threats of an economic, social, humanitarian, and military-political nature.

They drew attention to the fact that Moldova “intensified the use of blockade and restrictive measures aimed at undermining economic potential, destroying the foundations of independence and statehood, and imposing alien values.”

The head of the Ministry of Economic Development of the PMR, Sergei Obolonik, during his speech at the congress, already estimated the damage from the blockade at $100 million. According to the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the republic, Vitaly Ignatiev, holding the congress was a chance to be heard far beyond the region and an opportunity to show the real picture of what is happening.

“Pay attention to the hysteria that took place in the media of foreign countries.

There was only one goal - to disrupt the congress of deputies of all levels, to scare people, to silence them.

The voice of Pridnestrovians must be heard, and we must talk about our freedoms, our rights, the right to economic activity, and ultimately to peace,” said the head of the PMR, Vadim Krasnoselsky.

The document also states that the critical situation requires urgent and maximally active international intervention in order to prevent the escalation of tensions and prevent the crisis from developing what is happening.

The document will also be sent to the UN Secretary General, the CIS, the European Parliament, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the International Committee of the Red Cross, as well as participants in the “5 + 2” negotiating format (Moldova, Transnistria, OSCE, Russia, Ukraine, and also observers from the EU and the USA).

“Pridnestrovie will persistently fight for its own identity, rights and interests of the Pridnestrovian people and will not give up their protection, despite any forms of blackmail and external pressure,” the resolution says.

“Russia’s task is to protect its citizens”

Transnistrian deputies decided to turn to Russia against the backdrop of data indicating the desire of the United States and its allies, through Moldova, to create another zone of tension for Moscow near its borders.

This opinion was expressed by the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots Viktor Vodolatsky.

“More than 220 thousand Russian citizens live on the territory of the republic, and our task is to protect our citizens, wherever and in whatever situation they are, especially such a difficult and complex one,” said RT’s interlocutor.

The parliamentarian also recalled that there is a Russian military base in the PMR, and Moscow is the guarantor of stability and order in this territory.

“The task of the Russian authorities is to consider this appeal, create a working group in order to coordinate activities with their colleagues and make decisions that will prevent the escalation of the situation in Transnistria.

The most important thing is to ensure the protection of Russian citizens,” Vodolatsky emphasized.

Political scientist Ivan Meziukho also called the appeal of the Pridnestrovian deputies a reaction to the anti-Pridnestrovian and Russophobic policies of the President of the Republic of Moldova and at the same time a citizen of Romania, Maia Sandu.

He recalled that from the first days as head of Moldova, Sandu strengthened the blockade of the Transnistrian region.

At the same time, he admitted that she could give the go-ahead to Vladimir Zelensky to carry out military provocations on the territory of the Transnistrian region.

“This is the reality that has developed today precisely during the presidency of Maia Sandu.

Therefore, indeed, today the residents of Transnistria are faced with acute issues not only of a social and humanitarian nature, but also issues in the field of security.

I think that it is quite likely that we can expect a convening of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, at which this document will be discussed,” the expert said in an interview with RT.
