It's been almost 40 years since Kentucky sent Mitch McConnell to the Senate, and it's been 20 years since his colleagues entrusted him with responsibilities, making him one of the most powerful men in Washington.

But as he himself says: “

One of the most underrated talents in life is knowing when it's time to move on to the next chapter.

At 82, a birthday he celebrated a few days ago, Mitch McConnell believes it is time.

The reasons for this choice seem quite obvious.

First there is his health: a few months ago, the man who had been affected by polio as a child and had only walked at the age of five fell and suffered a concussion.

Then, twice, there were

moments of absence in public

and prolonged silences in the middle of a press conference, particularly embarrassing moments.

And then there are political reasons.

His party has changed.

This ardent defender of aid to Ukraine undoubtedly had difficulty admitting that his people were entering into a bipartisan agreement on this subject for political reasons, under the leadership of Donald Trump.
