The Civil Guard has arrested this Wednesday the alleged perpetrator of the twenty fires that occurred in the El Saler Natural Park, among which are those of the great voracity of February 11 and 12.

The detainee, a 59-year-old man of Spanish nationality, is also accused of an alleged crime of breach of precautionary measures.

The investigations carried out by Seprona as well as Citizen Collaboration have been essential in locating the alleged perpetrator, who is the same man who was arrested on October 25 for similar events.

The Civil Guard has reported that the investigation remains open.

The detainee, JC, is a lawyer from

Valencia

with 25 years of experience behind him, who is the only suspect of causing the series of fires that have been occurring in recent months in

El Saler

, in an area near the natural park of the

Albufera

of Valencia.

A fragile ecosystem of great ecological value that has been in the sights of the alleged arsonist since the summer.

He was already arrested on October 25, just a few days after four fires once again burned part of El Saler.

The

Civil Guard

had been tracking him for some time, since he was identified several times in the vicinity of the areas that burned and had a record: he was already arrested in 2000 and 2005 for two other fires.

The lawyer was brought before the court in October and his imprisonment was ordered.

It wouldn't take him long to get out.

In December he was released because investigators found no more incriminating evidence at his home and it was considered that there was no flight risk.

The mayor of Valencia,

María José Catalá

, already commented in October of last year that this series of fires were arson.

There is "a crazy man who wants to set fire" to El Saler, she said.

"This is not so much an issue of an isolated incident, of a fire that can be caused in many ways, but rather

we are clear that there is a person behind it who is causing these fires

," said the mayor.
