The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and French President Emmanuel Macron stressed the need for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, and the need for mediation efforts to continue.

The Amiri Diwan said in a statement that the Emir of Qatar and the French President discussed during a discussion session at the Elysee Palace yesterday, Tuesday, the latest developments in issues on the regional and international arenas, particularly developments in the situation in the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories.

A statement by the French presidency said that Macron and the Emir of the State of Qatar stressed the need for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

The French presidency statement added that Macron and the Emir of Qatar also stressed opposition to any attack on Rafah, and they also called for the opening of crossing points, including the northern Gaza Strip, to resume humanitarian activities.

The Emir of the State of Qatar and the French President stressed the need for mediation efforts to continue to achieve a truce in Gaza and release detainees and prisoners.

In a joint statement, they renewed their commitment to making decisive progress in the negotiations on a comprehensive political process leading to a comprehensive, lasting and just peace settlement, and they also reaffirmed that the only viable solution is the two-state solution.

Productive conversations

For his part, the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, said in a post on the X platform that he held fruitful talks with President Macron in Paris regarding the future of the Palestinian issue as it is the cornerstone of Qatar’s international and regional concerns.

Sheikh Tamim stressed that every effort would be made to stop the war in Gaza and deliver aid to the brothers.

For its part, the Qatar News Agency reported that Qatar and France announced - on the sidelines of Sheikh Tamim's two-day state visit to Paris - an initiative for cooperation in the field of humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of Palestinian civilians trapped in the Gaza Strip.

In implementation of the cooperation initiative, yesterday, Tuesday, three planes belonging to the Qatari Armed Forces arrived in the city of Al-Arish in Egypt carrying 75 tons of humanitarian aid.

The planes carry 10 ambulances, shelter supplies, and food supplies provided by the State of Qatar and France, and they will be transported to the Gaza Strip.
