The financial support of the PSC to reinforce the nationalist structures of the Generalitat of Catalonia is consolidated in the Budgets for 2024, the second that the socialists agree with ERC.
The budget project that the Government approved this Wednesday after agreeing on it yesterday with the formation led by
Salvador Illa
, includes double-digit percentage increases in the majority of items related to the sovereignty doctrine: those that have to do with the Catalan language, with TV3 and the rest of the public means of the Generalitat, with spending on foreign action or with the maintenance of the network of entities attached to the Catalan Administration from which the independence discourse is promoted.
Thus, for example, the Budgets of the PSC and ERC allocate 120 million for Foreign Action, 11% more than those of 2023. Of these, 19 million will be dedicated to "deploying the network of 21 delegations of the Generalitat in 72 countries."
Last year, the socialists demanded to freeze the opening of new Catalan
embassies
to support the 2023 accounts. That commitment was broken then and continues to be broken now: at that time there were 18 of these organizations in operation and the Government continues to devote itself to their deployment so that The current 21 are at full capacity as soon as possible.
The media of the Catalan Audiovisual Media Corporation, with TV3 at the helm, will receive 377 million for the 336 million budgeted last year, with which the second accounts of Illa and
Pere Aragonès
increase spending on the main media speakers by 12% of Catalan secessionism.
The Budgets also include items related to Catalan worth 111 million.
If we stick to the specific heading that quantifies the disbursement on "the promotion of the Catalan language", the expenditure goes from 59 to 63 million, which represents an increase of 6.7%.
Finally, the financing intended to keep in operation the tangle of entities dependent on the Generalitat (foundations, consortia, commercial companies...), those popularly known as
beach bars
, goes from 4,334 to 4,819 million, 11% more.
The budget pact that the PSC and ERC signed in 2023 included the commitment to "study" the 10% reduction of these organizations in future budgets, but this declaration of intentions has not been materialized, a new one of these entities has even been created , now reaching 207.
It should also be noted that the ERC Government has not been able to compute in its budget project the savings of 15,000 million for debt forgiveness from the Autonomous Liquidity Fund (FLA) agreed with the PSOE in exchange for the support of the Republicans for the investiture of Pedro Sánchez .
This operation, which would imply a secondary saving of 1.3 billion in interest, has not yet been executed.
The Budgets of the PSC and ERC still need the support of a third partner to be approved in Parliament, since, together, socialists and republicans do not reach the absolute majority, set at 68 deputies.
The president of the Generalitat appeared this Wednesday, before the presentation of the Budgets, to put pressure on the party led by
Ada Colau
.
Aragonès has maintained that "no one who has the will to move forward can oppose these accounts."
The ERC leader was thus referring to the condition set by the
commons
to vote in favor of the Budgets, and which involves definitively burying the leisure macro project that Hard Rock plans to build in Tarragona.
Aragonès has stressed that the accounts do not include "not one euro" to finance this complex, but those from Colau demand that the Government commit to denying the necessary planning license so that the developers can start building.
ERC and the
commons
will meet again this Wednesday to try to move towards an agreement.
"It would be a mistake for someone to want to exclude themselves," defended the
president
, who could easily exhaust the legislature if the Budgets ended up being approved.
