Farah Dakhlallah became the first NATO spokesperson of Arab origin (British press)
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced that Briton of Lebanese origin, Farah Dakhlallah, will assume the position of NATO’s official spokesperson, effective March 1, becoming the first woman of Arab origin to hold this position.
"I look forward to welcoming Farah Dakhlallah as NATO's next spokesperson. In a more dangerous world, clear and timely communication and engagement with the media are more important than ever," Stoltenberg said in a statement posted on the alliance's website.
The statement added: Ms. Dakhlallah joins NATO and has extensive experience from the public and private sectors, including the United Nations, the United Kingdom government, and AstraZeneca, in addition to many media organizations.
She succeeds Oana Lungescu, who served as spokesperson from 2010 to 2023.
The new official spokesperson responded, in a post on the X platform, saying, “It is an honor and a privilege to be appointed NATO’s official spokesperson, to lead the alliance’s press and media during this critical period.”
Dakhla Allah previously worked as Director of Communications at the World Health Organization between 2017 and 2021, and she also served as Arab Spokesperson for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in the United Kingdom between 2014 and 2016.
She also studied audiovisual arts at Saint Joseph University in Beirut, before obtaining a master’s degree in international relations from the University of Cambridge, and a master’s degree in media and communications from the London School of Economics.
