According to Météo-France forecasts, seven departments are on orange alert for “floods” or “avalanches”.

Orange “flood” vigilance will be in force in Pas-de-Calais, Seine-et-Marne, Charente-Maritime, Charente, Dordogne and Gironde.

Significant floods are forecast for Tuesday on the Dronne (south-west), the Isle (Gironde, Dordogne) and the Grand Morin (Seine-et-Marne).

The weather on Tuesday will be marked by a generalized calm with the exception of the Pyrenees, according to forecasts from Météo-France, which has placed seven departments on orange alert for "floods" or "avalanches".

In a northerly flow which will become widespread over France, the sky will clear over the North-West in the morning.

The weather will be cool but dry.

Over the northeast quarter, the sky will be low and gray at daybreak and will remain cloudy in the afternoon.

In the south, the weather will be more variable.

Clouds will dominate and will be accompanied by scattered rain in the South-West, mainly in the morning.

On the terrain, precipitation will persist and increase.

On the Massif Central the rain-snow limit will be around 1,000 m, a few centimeters will fall on Limousin and especially Auvergne.

In the Alps, the rain-snow limit, around 1,000 to 1,200 m in the morning, will rise to around 1,300 to 1,600 m in the afternoon, with precipitation gradually concentrating on the border ridges.

Rainfall in the Pyrenees

The sky will also be overcast from the Rhône valley to Provence and Corsica, with showers during the day.

The sky will be brighter around the Gulf of Lion with a tramontane at 70 to 80 km/h.

It is in the Pyrenees that the precipitation will be the most sustained and lasting.

The rain-snow limit will be low, around 700 m in the morning and 1,000 m in the afternoon.

Precipitation will be abundant in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, up to 60 to 100 mm locally in the Basque mountains.

We expect more than 20 to 30 cm of snow over a good western half of the Pyrenees, locally 50 cm above 1,500 m, more like 10 to 20 cm to the east, locally 30 cm.

The Pyrénées-Atlantiques department will be on orange “avalanche” alert.

“The risk of avalanches will become high (4 out of 5) in the Basque Country and Aspe-Ossau massifs”, in the western part of the Pyrenees, meteorologists explained.

“Large avalanches are expected (Tuesday), they can affect mountain roads in the usual corridors and sometimes ski resort infrastructures,” they said.

Temperatures will drop slightly.

The minimums will range from 2 to 6 degrees in most regions, up to 8 by the sea and 10 in Corsica.

The maximums will peak between 7 and 11 degrees, locally 12 to 14 degrees near the Mediterranean and in the Rhône valley, up to 16 in Corsica.
