With our correspondent in Dakar,

In

Senegal

, civil society wants to maintain pressure to demand the departure of President Macky Sall on April 2 at the latest, the date of the end of his mandate.

The Aar sunu Election

platform

(“Let’s protect our election”) had announced a day of death across the country today as well as a general strike.

His results are very mixed at midday.

In the city center and the markets this morning, everything is operating as usual, traffic is heavy, traders have taken out their stalls and shops are open.

Some of them told RFI that they were not aware of the ghost town slogan.

Many also explained that it is difficult when you work day to day to stop for a whole day and that they therefore decided not to follow this instruction.

On the other hand, several teacher unions members of the

Aar sunu election

platform are striking.

And the students did not go to class in certain high schools in the city such as Kennedy High School or Blaise Diagne High School.

The dialogue promoted by Macky Sall continues

The aim of this general strike is “

to protest against the confiscation of the popular will by

Macky Sall and the president

sets a new election date as quickly as possible, before April 2.

 ”

But it should be noted that unions are not all on the same wavelength.

Large structures, such as the National Union of Traders and Industrialists of Senegal (Unacois) which represents traders and industrialists, are not following this strike and explain that they are in favor of dialogue.

The dialogue organized by Macky Sall which continues in parallel this Tuesday to choose a new election date, in the absence of numerous organizations and candidates validated for the February 25 election... The participants should return their conclusions to the president this evening.
