Poland: angry farmers demonstrate in Warsaw

More than 10,000 farmers demonstrated in Warsaw.

They protested against European climate policy, which they consider too restrictive, and against Ukrainian imports.

Since the start of the war, they have no longer been subject to customs duties and Polish farmers have suffered a drop in prices for their production.

In the capital, they were determined to make themselves heard this Tuesday, February 27.

With our correspondent in Warsaw,

Martin Chabal

This is the first time since the start of the protest movement that Polish farmers were in Warsaw, and they made noise there.

Piotr is a beekeeper.

He protests against the importation of Ukrainian honey which lowers the prices of his own honey.

“

If we don't fight now, well, unfortunately, in a few years there will be no more Polish farmers.

But not even just Polish, there will be no more European farmers at all

 ,” he says.

Polish farmers also find themselves in the fights of their European colleagues.

Lucian is a dairy cow breeder.

“

We can no longer sustain our farms

And the European Union does nothing

And whether it is here or a farm in France, Germany, or Belgium, we produce in the same difficult conditions

 ,” he assures.

And even if the European Union helps farmers with subsidies, it is not enough for Lucian.

“

We don’t want a subsidy for every hectare of corn.

As we say here, we just ask for good prices.

 »

At the end of the demonstration, a delegation of farmers was received by the head of the Polish National Assembly.

But dissatisfied with the talks, they promised they would continue to blockade the country until Poland rejects the European Green Deal.
