“A priority to reduce our deficits”

The former Prime Minister of Emmanuel Macron's first five-year term regretted on Monday that France "does not reform much", in an interview with

where he is concerned about the state of public finances and calls for consideration of the debt as a “political obsession”.

“I completely agree with him in the fact that it is obviously a priority to reduce our deficits,” replied Gabriel Attal, on the sidelines of a visit which should last all day at the Agricultural Show.

To this end, Gabriel Attal confirmed that he was in favor of "reopening the construction site" of unemployment insurance due to the economic slowdown which should increase expenses and slow down revenues.

The Prime Minister also believes that there is “an expectation among the French to have a social model that encourages the return to employment”.

“The social partners are in negotiations until the end of March. So we will take stock in the coming weeks. I am in favor of us being able to move forward on this issue,” he said.

In the

on Sunday, Gabriel Attal was more precise.

“We went from 24 months to 18 months of compensation duration, we can further reduce it. We can also increase the degression of allowances, this will be part of the discussions,” he indicated.
