Akunin is accused of publicly calling for terrorist activities, as well as discrediting the Russian Armed Forces. The Ministry of Justice previously recognized Akunin as a foreign agent. The ministry noted that Grigory Chkhartishvili disseminated false information about the Russian Federation and its army.

Press secretary of the Basmanny District Court Olga Nazarova confirmed in an interview with RT the information that the court had frozen the accounts of the wife of writer Boris Akunin* in the amount of up to 6 million rubles until June 14, 2024.
