Occupied Jerusalem -

The idea of the “Abu Jihad Center for Prisoner Movement Affairs” began in a small office in the city of Ramallah in 1997, then it developed into a center in an independent building at Al-Quds University in 2007.

The center, which is like a museum, collects the intellectual, cultural and literary production of Palestinian prisoners, some of which dates back to 1917 and the period of the British Mandate.

On a tour of the building, the center’s official, Maryam Hammad, talks to Al Jazeera Net about the details of the establishment, the contents of the center, and its mission.

She says that it includes a presentation of the methods of torture used against prisoners and martyrs of the prisoner movement, and the literary and legal archive of the prisoners.

Meanwhile, Dr. Hashem Dhouib, representative of Al-Quds University on the center’s board of directors, says that the center is the only and first center established to document the experience of the captive movement, indicating that Arab and international delegations that visit the university are taken to visit the center located on the university’s main campus in the town of Abu Dis.
