Nothing works here anymore.

On Sunday, Polish farmers blocked the German-Polish border crossing on the A2 in Świecko near Frankfurt (Oder) with dozens of tractors.

Dariusz Wróbel, farmer:

“Today is a farmers’ protest.

Most of the farmers here are from Poland, but we also have farmer representatives from Germany.

We are protesting against what the European Union and the EU Parliament are proposing with the 'Green Deal'.

We want to show presence and show solidarity with all protesters from Poland, Germany, France and Spain, because we are all one as farmers.

And we would also like the same from the EU Parliament.«

But it is also about grain imports from Ukraine.

After the widespread Russian attack two years ago, the EU suspended import tariffs on Ukrainian grain to help the country economically.

However, cheap Ukrainian grain on the EU market is depressing prices for domestic grain, farmers say.

What is peaceful here is escalating more and more at the Polish-Ukrainian border: demonstrators recently opened loading doors on trains and destroyed the grain.

Meanwhile, traffic on the border with Germany had to be rerouted over the city bridge between Słubice and Frankfurt (Oder).

According to the police, the restrictions on Sunday were “within limits”.

The farmers announced that this would not be the last action.
