Police placed barriers in front of the Israeli Embassy in Washington after a person set himself on fire in front of the building (Anatolia)

A person set himself on fire in front of the Israeli embassy in the US capital on Sunday afternoon, leaving him seriously injured.

An official in the Washington Fire and Emergency Medical Service said that they had received a report that an adult had set himself on fire in front of the Israeli embassy building.

He added that members of the Secret Service were able to put out the fire.

The fire official pointed out that the person who set himself on fire was taken to a hospital in the area, and that his condition was critical due to his severe injuries.

The official did not reveal details about this person’s identity, his connections, or the reasons that prompted him to set himself on fire in front of the Israeli embassy building.

Local police and the Secret Service are investigating the incident.

The Israeli embassy was the target of ongoing protests against the war on Gaza, which led to the outbreak of massive pro-Palestinian demonstrations in the United States and many parts of the world.

Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation forces have launched a fierce aggression against the Gaza Strip, causing the death of about 30,000 Palestinians and massive destruction of the infrastructure of the besieged Strip, amid accusations against Israel before the International Court of Justice of committing “genocide.”
