The Nature Protection Service (Seprona) of the
Civil Guard
is investigating 34 people for crimes of
mistreatment and abandonment of
domestic animals in several municipalities in the province of Malaga after rescuing up to 111 animals that were in a deplorable situation.
In total, researchers have carried out 236 actions related to the
inspection of private kennels
, livestock farms, zoos and animal shelters.
In them, they have detected more than
500
administrative violations of animal regulations, mainly related to animal welfare, lack of suitability of accommodation, lack of food and water, animal hygiene, lack of veterinary care or documentary and health records.
The Civil Guard has found
animals sick with leishmaniasis,
scabies or other pathologies that had not received veterinary care.
Also
dogs whose ears or tails had been amputated
without justification, horses abandoned without food or water in the middle of a heat wave and even animals beaten to death.
The animals have been placed in the care of associations and shelters at the disposal of the competent authorities.
Only in less serious cases have they been left in the hands of the owners under the supervision and control of the authorities with jurisdiction in the matter.
During the course of the investigations, we have had the collaboration of the
Official College of Veterinarians of Malaga
and the support of some animal protection associations and veterinarians of the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development of the Junta de Andalucía in Malaga.
