Burglaries are on the rise again in France.

Gironde becomes the third department most affected in France by the phenomenon, behind Paris and Bouches-du-Rhône.

On the side of the police, we are working hard to track down the networks, which are always better organized.

Alarm, neighborhood surveillance... Everyone has their own technique to try to protect their home while they are away.

But despite the precautions, the number of burglaries increased by 3% in one year, to reach 217,000 intrusions.

In Gironde, the figures explode with 7,968 burglaries.

The department climbs to the third step of the podium, just behind Paris and Bouches-du-Rhône.

The region is also affected by caravan thefts.

Two forms of delinquency

“I have two company vehicles parked in front of my home. The interior of one of the vehicles was visited last Sunday. They broke the windows. And they visited the first vehicle three weeks before,” he told microphone from Europe 1 a Girondin.

Property crimes increased by 4% in 2023 in Gironde, with thieves who do not all have the same methods and not all the same organization.

“There is local delinquency. The gendarmes are able to determine, based on the signature of the burglary, whether it is local or if it is someone who comes from outside,” explains Colonel Eddy Horus .

Specialized teams deployed

“And then, there is also delinquency that comes from abroad, very often from Eastern countries. We are planning a team of several individuals who will walk the streets, learn the habits of the people on the street and "The moment they are sure they can type, they type and it's extremely fast. We have a few examples. And often, at the end of the burglary, vehicles are loaded and immediately leave for Eastern countries." he continues.

So, to counter this increase, the Gironde gendarmerie deploys and relies on jets from specialized investigation groups dedicated to the fight against burglaries.
