The adoption of the electoral code, a new step towards the presidential election in Chad

A new electoral code, promulgated on Friday February 23 by decree, now governs the organization of the next legislative, senatorial and local elections but especially the presidential election which will put an end to the transition begun almost three years ago in the aftermath of the death of President Idriss Déby Itno.

This new stage provokes contrasting reactions within the political class.

For the MPS, the step was just a formality.

The party has already

designated transitional president Mahamat Déby as candidate,

who is waiting until the last moment to give his response but could take advantage of the launch of the Coalition for a United Chad, within a few days, to announce his candidacy, according to a source.

The alliance led by the MPS already brings together more than 180 parties and organizations, including Saleh Kebzabo's UNDR which will therefore not be a candidate.

Coincidence or not, some opposition parties are currently experiencing internal unrest.

Like the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) or the Socialist Party Without Borders (PSF) of Yaya Dillo.

The latter, which will hold its congress next week, could decide to boycott the vote due to the composition of the electoral agency and the Constitutional Court considered too favorable to power.

In this equation, the big unknown is the strategy that the former opponent who became Prime Minister, Succès Masra, will adopt.

It faces its first full-scale test with the social crisis that has shaken the country since the increase in fuel prices.
