Sellers and shoppers in one of the Rafah markets in the southern Gaza Strip (French)

Palestinian journalist Abdullah Al-Attar documented the significant increase in the prices of a number of foodstuffs available in the southern Gaza Strip. During a tour of one of the markets, he showed the significant increase in prices compared to their levels before the beginning of the aggression against Gaza.

Al-Attar spoke to some sellers in the video that he posted today, Saturday, on his account on the Instagram platform, and asked about the prices of goods, including coffee, sugar, and some vegetables.

The clip shows that the price of sugar went from 3 shekels before the start of the war to about 70 shekels now (a dollar equals about 3.63 shekels), while the price of coffee rose from 10 shekels to about 100 shekels.

On the side allocated to vegetables, the journalist found that the price of lemons rose from 5 shekels to 25, while onions are currently sold for about 50 shekels compared to one shekel before the war.

Some other items were not spared from the rise, as the price of a bag of “chips” moved from about one shekel before the aggression to 12 shekels now.

The residents of the Gaza Strip are facing a tragic situation in light of the ongoing aggression since the seventh of last October, which led to the death of more than 29 thousand, most of them children and women.

The suffering is concentrated in the northern Gaza Strip under a siege imposed by the Israeli occupation forces that prevent the arrival of humanitarian aid, which has increased the risk of famine among the population.
