The US Army announced on Friday that it had destroyed targets belonging to the Ansar Allah Houthi group in Yemen, after the group announced yesterday that it had carried out 3 military operations, one of which targeted an American destroyer in the Red Sea.

US Central Command said it carried out its strikes on Thursday and Friday after detecting an "imminent threat" to US Navy ships and commercial vessels.

It explained that the strikes hit 4 drones and two cruise missiles that were prepared to be launched from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen towards the Red Sea.

The command added that it also shot down 3 drones near commercial ships in the Red Sea, noting that the ships were not damaged.

Al Jazeera correspondent Fadi Mansour documented the launch of warplanes that participated in intercepting the Houthi marches on board the US aircraft carrier Eisenhower in the southern Red Sea.

The Houthis said on Friday that American and British forces targeted the Ras Issa area in Al-Salif District in Al-Hudaydah Governorate, western Yemen, with three raids.

Since last January, American and British forces have launched strikes on Houthi positions in Yemen after their attacks in the Red Sea escalated.

In support of the Palestinian resistance, since the escalation of the war on Gaza, the Houthis have been targeting ships owned or operated by Israeli companies or individuals or transporting goods to and from Israel. They expanded their attacks to include American and British ships after the start of the raids on Yemen.

The Houthi military spokesman, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, announced yesterday, Thursday, that they had carried out 3 military operations, one of which targeted an American destroyer with drones, the second a British commercial ship in the Gulf of Aden, and the third consisted of launching ballistic missiles and drones at Israeli sites in Eilat.

This came with the pledge of the group's leader, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, to escalate their attacks in exchange for the Israeli escalation in Gaza.
