The judge of the National Court Francisco de Jorge has issued European and international arrest warrants and imprisonment against Carmelo Ovono Obiang, son of the president of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang, and two other senior officials of the country in the framework of the case about alleged torture of opponents in 2019.

The magistrate has adopted this decision to replace the judge in the case, Santiago Pedraz, in response to what the Criminal Chamber of the National Court ordered a few days ago, when considering an appeal presented by the Movement for the Liberation of Equatorial Guinea. Third Republic (MLGE3R), to which the families of the victims joined.

In addition to Carmelo Obiang, the decision affects the director of the Presidency Security, Isaac Nguema, and the Minister of State, Nicolás Obama, against whom the complaint that gave rise to the procedure, born in 2020, for the alleged kidnapping and torture was directed. of four opponents - one of them already deceased - in November 2019.
