Al-Qahtani: Israel follows a policy of forced displacement against Palestinians (Al-Jazeera)

The representative of the State of Qatar before the International Court of Justice, Mutlaq Al-Qahtani, said that the credibility of international law depends on the court’s decision and opinion regarding the Israeli occupation.

Al-Qahtani added - in his plea - that Israel is pursuing an apartheid policy with regard to its settlement project, in flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.

The representative of the State of Qatar explained that the basis of the Israeli project is settlement and the imposition of settlers on the occupied territories, and pointed out that Israel exploited the war in the Gaza Strip to cover settlement activities in Jerusalem and the West Bank, which are witnessing a situation no less bad than the situation in Gaza.

He stressed that ending the apartheid regime requires establishing a situation that gives the Palestinians their rights, and considered that the court is obligated to take into account all opinions that consider the Israeli occupation illegal.

Al-Qahtani pointed out that Israel follows a policy of forced displacement against the Palestinians, but the matter got worse after last October 7, as it forced 75% of the population of Gaza to flee.

The representative of the State of Qatar expressed his rejection of double standards, stressed that international law must apply to everyone, and said that Israel has obstructed all peaceful solutions, continues to occupy Palestinian territories, and rejects the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.

Al-Qahtani pointed out that for more than 75 years, the right of the Palestinian people has been treated as an exception to the rule of international law.

The representative of the State of Qatar stressed that Israel has been isolating the residents of Gaza from the world since 2007, noting at the same time that the Israeli occupation divides the Palestinians, isolates them, and hinders their movements and daily activities.

Today, Friday, the hearings held by the International Court of Justice in The Hague continued to discuss the legal consequences arising from Israel’s policies and practices in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The International Court of Justice sessions will be held between February 19 and 26, during which 52 countries - along with the League of Arab States, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the African Union - will make statements regarding the legal consequences of Israeli practices in the occupied Palestinian territories.
