Foreign Minister Kamikawa met with Foreign Minister Vieira during his visit to Brazil, and confirmed that the two countries would work together to respond to issues such as reform of the United Nations Security Council.

Foreign Minister Kamikawa, who was visiting Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to attend the G20 foreign ministers' meeting of 20 major countries, had a 30-minute meeting with Foreign Minister Vieira, who served as the chairperson, on the morning of the 23rd, Japan time.

During this meeting, Minister Kamikawa expressed his desire to work closely with the United Nations Security Council, which has been pointed out to be dysfunctional, while Foreign Minister Vieira also expressed his desire to become a permanent member of the Security Council. He said he would like to lead reforms in the G4, which includes Japan, Brazil, Germany, and India, aiming to achieve the same goal.



The two foreign ministers also intend to work together to ensure the success of this year's G20 Summit, a summit meeting of 20 major countries, and next year's COP30, a United Nations conference on climate change measures, both of which will be held in Brazil. It was agreed.



Minister Kamikawa has been placing emphasis on diplomacy with Latin American countries this year, and during his stay in Brazil, he also met with the foreign ministers of Mexico and Bolivia one after another.
