Studies have stopped in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the war, and all schools have turned into shelters for the displaced, but the “candle of knowledge” does not fade in the hearts of Gazans, students and teachers.

Raed Abu Taima, an Arabic language teacher, worked with his colleagues to form a team of teachers and transform a library into a study and education center in the city of Rafah.

Abu Ta'imah said that his initiative, called "Bendawy Shamaa" (Light a Candle), began with his presence in the library to preserve it and its capabilities, especially in light of the circumstances of the war launched by Israel on the Gaza Strip, and the school's transformation into a shelter.

Students began to flock to the library to borrow books, then read stories, criticize them, and write endings for them.

He recounts that he and a group of teachers began activating the library and reading stories, following a strategy of education and emotional release, to help the students relieve the grief and fatigue left by the war in their souls.
