The

Community of Madrid

will finance extracurricular activities during the course and

will open public schools on non-school days

starting in the next academic year 2024/25.

The Governing Council approved, at its meeting this Wednesday, these new measures that may benefit

more than 310,000 students

from 800 second cycle centers of Early Childhood and Primary Education and which will involve an investment of up to

12 million euros

.

The initiative of the regional government is intended for

all public centers

of Early Childhood and Primary Education (CEIP), Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary Schools (CEIPSO) and Grouped Rural Schools (CRA).

The amounts will be granted to the councils that request them in the form of direct aid, while families will only have to complete a simple procedure at their school or through their town hall to register for the activity that interests them.

The

extracurricular activities

will be aimed at students who belong to the center itself in general, although children enrolled in one of the same municipality and others may also participate, as long as they meet the age requirement set by the organizers and there are free places.

Among the activities that will be scheduled will be

support, guided study and reinforcement activities, languages, sports or artistic initiatives

.

As for

non-school days

, they will be available to all students in the town and in the areas established by the town councils, and they will have the option of opening

from September 1

until the beginning of the course, at Christmas, at Easter and the rest of the days that the school calendar determines as non-school days.

In this case,

sports activities and activities related to training in first aid or nutrition and healthy habits

, among others, will be scheduled.

This proposal from the Ministry of Education, Science and Universities aims to contribute to the comprehensive training of minors by complementing the academic education they receive in a curricular manner, while at the same time fulfilling the function of

supporting the reconciliation

of family and work life.

BREAKFAST AND DINING ON VACATIONS FOR VULNERABLE STUDENTS

Also to support this conciliation, especially for the most vulnerable families in the region, since last year the Community of Madrid has offered

aid for free school meals during the non-school days

of Christmas, Easter and summer.

This measure is aimed at Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary Education students who receive the Minimum Insertion Income (RMI), Minimum Living Income (IMV), victims of terrorism and violence against women or minors in foster care, and they benefit from it. this year

about 1,000 schoolchildren

thanks to an investment of 200,000 euros.

In addition, second cycle Early Childhood and Primary students whose families receive RMI or IMV have also been guaranteed

free healthy breakfasts

in their centers since last year.

This service is offered before the start of the school day in schools supported by public funds, and involves an investment of 600,000 euros by the regional government for this academic year.
