Amman -

The narrow situation did not prevent the people of the Tafaila neighborhood, east of the Jordanian capital, Amman, from taking the initiative to collect in-kind and cash donations for the benefit of the people of the Gaza Strip, which is subjected to a devastating war from the Israeli occupation.

Hundreds of people from the neighborhood, despite the difficult economic conditions they are living in, have organized numerous humanitarian and relief campaigns and initiatives to secure the basic needs that enable those besieged in Gaza to survive on their land, especially drinking water, foodstuffs, and infant formula.

According to those in charge of collecting donations from the residents of the neighborhood, they succeeded in preparing a camp to shelter dozens of displaced families from the afflicted Strip, after the campaign received wide acceptance from the residents of Tafaila and the participation of a large segment of them in collecting donations, especially since they saw its positive impact on the souls of the people of Gaza after documenting Aid delivery operations with pictures and videos.

More comprehensive work

Wissam Rabihat, one of those in charge of the popular campaign, explained that a group of young people from the Tafaila neighborhood decided to take the initiative to start organizing a donation campaign for the people of the Gaza Strip, and the idea was launched specifically after the Baptist Hospital massacre to move from organizing marches and demonstrations to relief work.

Rabihat added to Al Jazeera Net that after the arrival of the first aid convoy to Gaza and its documentation with video and photos, work began more comprehensively on equipping an ambulance with all its needs by the men and women of the neighborhood, and a group of his youth traveled to Egypt to document the arrival of donations to families in the Gaza Strip through communication and coordination. With the humanitarian relief organization “Miles of Smiles”, based in Europe, whose members are currently in Egypt.

He pointed out that the people of Tafaila expressed their feelings towards the people of Gaza, who are subjected to the most horrific aggression launched by the “occupying entity,” in a positive and effective way by working to organize humanitarian campaigns to secure all the basic humanitarian needs of the people of Gaza.

Rabihat confirmed that the residents of the “poor” neighborhood gave what they could, men, women, and even children, and their free money, to buy the necessary supplies for the residents of Gaza, and they are continuing to do so until the siege on the Gaza Strip is broken and the Israeli aggression against it stops.

ambitious

For his part, youth activist in the Tafaila neighborhood, Khaled Awad, said that the daily massacres taking place in the Gaza Strip prompted the people of the neighborhood to gather and pledge to work to collect donations and alleviate the suffering of Gazans by organizing campaigns and humanitarian initiatives, which culminated in equipping an ambulance with full equipment for the amount of 40 thousand. dollar.

Speaking to Al Jazeera Net, Awad warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "against targeting the ambulance in the Gaza Strip, which works to treat the wounded and sick, because it serves as our ambassador in the Strip and our relief representative there."

He pointed out that the people of Tafaila are currently considering sending a ship loaded with humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza, and explained, "This is an ambition that we seek to achieve in the near future, despite the presence of many obstacles."

He added that the people of the neighborhood have been able - so far - to collect approximately 140,000 dollars, in addition to providing 5,000 milk cartons to the children of the Strip during their siege at Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.

Social media pioneers praised the great effort made by the people of the Tafaila neighborhood in collecting donations and contributing to the provision of aid to the besieged Gaza Strip.

Bloggers considered that the people of the neighborhood reflected the true position of the Jordanian people in supporting the steadfastness of the people of Gaza, which prompted associations, institutions, and offices to begin fundraising campaigns for the benefit of the people in the Gaza Strip.

Extensive contribution

As for Hajja Umm Ibrahim, a resident of Tafaila, she confirmed that what the neighborhood’s youth and women did is not something new for its residents, which is considered one of the poor neighborhoods in the capital, Amman.

She told Al Jazeera Net that the neighborhood children participated and contributed to supporting the steadfastness of the people of the Gaza Strip by opening their piggy banks and offering the money in them, even though it was limited. The mothers sold their gold jewelry, while most of the men deducted a portion of their monthly salaries to the people of Gaza.

Aside from in-kind donations, Tafaila residents continue to organize various events, such as marches and various weekly vigils to support the steadfastness of the people of the Gaza Strip, raising slogans of victory and support for the Palestinian resistance in the Strip.

The Tafila neighborhood is the largest neighborhood in the capital, Amman, and the origins of the families go back to the Thawabiya clans from the village of Aima in the Tafila Governorate in southern Jordan.

Since October 7, the Israeli occupation army has continued its aggression against the Gaza Strip, with American and European support, as its planes bomb the vicinity of hospitals, buildings, towers, and Palestinian civilian homes, destroying them above the heads of their residents, and preventing the entry of water, food, medicine, and fuel.
