Former Federal President Joachim Gauck suspects that the federal government is therefore hesitating to provide military aid to Ukraine in order not to jeopardize a possible mediating role with Russia.

»The government is still not doing enough.

“It continues to be too hesitant to deliver ammunition and weapons,” he told SPIEGEL.

“We should have delivered the Taurus cruise missiles long ago.” Gauck said he asked himself: “What’s behind the hesitation?

That can't be a coincidence." The former Federal President continued: "The federal government may not want to jeopardize its role as a future broker, as a mediator between Ukraine and Russia." Gauck: "That would explain why we are a military supporter Kiev's don't go 'all in'." He is "quite proud of what Germany is doing.

However, the question remains: Could we, or better yet, shouldn’t we do more?”
