A well-known Kremlin propaganda official said - during a recent television broadcast - that Moscow should supply the Yemeni Houthis with Russian weapons for use in attacks on American and British ships.

Vladimir Solovyov, a prominent figure in the Kremlin-backed media and a staunch ally of President Vladimir Putin, made this proposal during an episode of his program broadcast on the Rossiya-1 channel.

On the other hand, Newsweek magazine reported that Solovyov's statements come as clashes continue in the Red Sea between the Houthis and Western defense forces.

According to Solovyov, Moscow should supply the Houthis with weapons in retaliation for Western countries that continue to help Ukraine in its war against Russian forces.

Newsweek referred to a video clip on the X platform - published by an advisor to the Ukrainian Interior Minister Anton Gerashchenko - to Solovyov's statements about the Houthis on Wednesday.

Solovyov called for arming this group to launch attacks on American and British targets, saying, "This is the right time."

He also said, according to Gerashenko's translation, "The Houthis will get everything. They will have semi-submersible drone boats, they will have powerful weapons, and they will get everything."

For its part, the US State Department said that Solovyov spreads misleading information from the Kremlin, and is also known for making controversial statements, such as indicating during a broadcast in the fall that Germany would eventually submit to “the Russian flag.”

The magazine pointed out that Solovyov also made headlines in October when he warned of a new world war that would make the West stand against Muslims around the world.
