Agents of the

Local Police of Elche

(Alicante) have arrested a

46-year-old man

for allegedly

trying to drown his wife

after grabbing her by the neck while they were at their home, after supposedly starting an argument for no reason.

The events occurred on

José Bernad Amorós Street

, where a police team was sent by a woman who was screaming inside a home while requesting police presence, as indicated by the Elche City Council in a statement.

A patrol went to the scene and found those involved outside the building. The woman explained to the agents that

she had arrived at her home

and, while she was preparing dinner, her husband had started an argument "for no reason." He reported that, at that moment, the man lunged at her aggressively and grabbed her by the neck with the intention of drowning her, an attitude that was common, according to what he stated.

For his part, the man reported that, while they were having dinner, his wife had become aggressive by not taking a prescribed medication and that, when she lunged at him to defend herself, she had grabbed him by the neck.

The victim's mother was also in the house, who confirmed what her daughter said. Given what happened, the man was arrested and taken to police stations.
