Occupied Jerusalem -

On Tuesday, the Israeli occupation authorities demolished an 8-storey residential building under construction in the town of Beit Hanina, north of East Jerusalem, under the pretext of unlicensed construction.

Eyewitnesses said that "Israeli army forces and Israeli crews surrounded the building and began demolishing it."

They explained that the building is “an 8-storey building owned by citizen Farid Abu Zahriya, and located on a land area of 300 square metres.”

Palestinian, Israeli and international human rights organizations say that Israel "deliberately reduces the number of building permits granted to Palestinians in East Jerusalem, while escalating decisions on settlement construction in the city."

According to the Jerusalem Governorate (the highest official Palestinian representation of the city), the occupation has escalated its violations in Jerusalem since the start of the aggression against Gaza on October 7, 2023, including 88 demolitions.

The occupation authorities do not grant Jerusalemites building permits except within the narrowest limits and with exorbitant conditions and amounts, in contrast to the wide-open settlement construction.

According to official Palestinian data, 292 demolition operations were carried out in the Jerusalem Governorate during 2023, including 73 facilities whose owners were forced to demolish them with their own hands.
