Among the eight defendants prosecuted by the Tainan District Prosecutor's Office, each was sentenced to 10 years in prison or not guilty. Among them, Wang Wenzong, the chairman of Tainan Academy Tzu Chi Palace, who was accused of being the "man behind the scenes" (that is, the mastermind), was sentenced to 6 months in prison for being suspected of hiding criminals.

The collegial panel stated that Wang Wenzong was sentenced to six months in prison and received a fine of Yike; the main suspect Hong Zhengjun was sentenced to 10 years in prison; the gunman Kong Xiangzhi was sentenced to eight years; Yang Zhanhua, who took the gun, was sentenced to five months in prison and was fined Yike; and the parking attendant of the Garden Night Market who provided the motorcycle responsible for the crime was sentenced to 8 years in prison. The prosecutor pointed out that Wang Wenzong, former Tainan City Councilor Xie Caiwang, and former Democratic Progressive Party Central Executive Committee member Guo Zaiqin, who had a close personal relationship and were closely aligned politically, were harassed by Guo because of Xie during the Tainan City Speaker election at the end of 2018. He lobbied, broke his original promise to Wang, and voted for speaker Qiu Lili, a candidate of the Democratic Progressive Party, which caused the relationship between the three people to turn against each other.

In the Tainan City Council election in 2022, Xie Caiwang will no longer run, and his daughter Xie Shufan will inherit the political legacy and run as a member of the Democratic Progressive Party. Unexpectedly, Wang Wenzong teamed up with his friend Hong Zhengjun, nicknamed "Red Turtle", to plan to shoot at Guo Zaiqin's company and Xie Caiwang's service office before the election. It was agreed that Hong Zhengjun would command and execute, and Wang Wenzong would arrange post-escape assistance afterwards.

At about 2:58 a.m. on November 10, 2022, Kong Xiangzhi followed Hong's order. After arriving at Xuejia on a motorcycle, he first fired 58 rounds of bullets at the building of Guo Zaiqin's former company with a submachine gun, and then fired at Xie Shufan's campaign headquarters at Tiejia. Fired 30 rounds at the door. After Hong and Kong committed the crime, they smuggled themselves to the mainland on a fishing boat in the early morning of November 12 of the same year. Wang Wenzong took two flights to Xiamen to meet Hong and help fund daily expenses.

In January 2023, Hong Zhengjun and Kong Xiangzhi were arrested by the mainland public security organs for illegally entering the mainland, and were subsequently deported back to Taiwan.

However, during interrogation, Wang Wenzong only admitted that he had met Hong Zhengjun in a hotel in mainland China, and provided Hong with a mobile phone to use and hide him. However, he denied hiding Kong Xiangzhi or being involved in the shooting; Hong Zhengjun also denied being involved in the shooting; Kong Xiangzhi denied Frankly admitted that Guo Zaiqin and Xie Caiwang committed the crime alone because they were "unsatisfied". In response, Cai Zongsheng, chief prosecutor of the Tainan District Prosecutor's Office, Xiangyue, said that the prosecutors will decide whether to appeal after receiving the verdict and deliberation.
