The Polish MEP noted in his address that due to the conflict in Ukraine, some European companies left Russia, but many, including large international corporations, still remain operating in the country.

“They (international corporations. -

) not only undermine the efforts of EU member states and citizens to block Russia’s access to Western funds, but also jeopardize our work, since they conduct business and pay taxes in Russia, thereby helping Putin,” - Belka said.

In this regard, the politician asked the European Commission whether it was considering tackling “this irresponsible and mainly profit-oriented” behavior on the part of European businesses and imposing additional taxes on such companies.

Belka also asked what other measures could be taken to ensure that international corporations leave Russia.

Earlier, Lithuanian Member of the European Parliament Juozas Olekas proposed introducing a “war tax” on trade with Russia, and using the funds received to restore Ukraine. According to experts, such innovations can slow down the EU economy.
