Asia's largest aviation and defense industry exhibition has opened in Singapore, with Japanese companies taking part and a new Chinese airliner unveiled for the first time at a major event outside the country.

The Singapore Air Show, Asia's largest aviation and defense industry exhibition, begins in Singapore on the 20th, with over 1,000 companies from over 50 countries and regions participating, as well as military personnel from each country.

Among them, Japan's Defense Equipment Agency set up a booth for the first time at the Singapore exhibition, and 13 Japanese companies participated.

Japanese personnel used models and other materials to demonstrate their technical capabilities to overseas stakeholders.

Defense Equipment Agency Director Hideki Fukawa said, ``We want to communicate Japan's technological capabilities to the world and firmly advance defense equipment and technology cooperation.''

Meanwhile, the C919, a new type of passenger aircraft developed by China as a national project, made its first appearance at a large-scale event overseas and was shown flying.

Interested parties visited the outdoor exhibition booth one after another to check out the aircraft and its performance.

China's C919 aircraft is said to compete with Airbus' A320 and Boeing 737, and appears to be aimed at promoting sales overseas.
