Charlotte County Deputy Sergeant

Dave Musgrove

's body camera captured the heroic and dramatic rescue of a mother, her toddler and her baby following a car accident in

Florida

on February 8.

The agent came to the rescue of the victims and, after removing the small child from the car, proceeded to remove the baby, who was in cardiopulmonary arrest. Musgrove then performed chest compressions until he was able to get the baby breathing again.

The deputy was traveling on a state highway near

Englewood

when a motorcycle passed him at an estimated speed of more than 100 mph, the sheriff's office said in a statement. Seconds later, a camera in the officer's vehicle captured a flash of light as the motorcycle collided with another vehicle.

Upon arriving at the scene, Musgrove opened the rear passenger door and removed the child from a booster seat. He asked a passerby for help, handed him the child, and then returned to the car. The motorcycle driver was

dead and trapped on top of the baby

, who was in a safety seat. With the help of other drivers, Musgrove moved the motorcyclist and cut a seat belt to remove the car seat.

In the body camera footage, his mother frantically asks him if he is alive. And thanks to the resuscitation that the agent performed, the baby has survived.

"Sergeant Musgrove's actions are to be commended," Sheriff

Bill Prummell

said in a statement. "His poise and calm demeanor in a scene of chaos and tragedy ultimately saved the life of a beautiful child."

The mother,

Kayleigh Foley

, told WBBH in Fort Myers that Musgrove is a hero to the family. "He's such a genuine person," she said.

At a news conference, Musgrove downplayed their efforts. "Anyone who received the same training as us would do the same thing," he said.
